Is there an inexpensive virus scanning solution for Exchange Server 2007? Are they all per mailbox?

Riven asked:

I work at a church, and our current mail server is MailEnable and we scan incoming emails using AVG Pro’s command line virus scanner (less than $20 / 2years). We are about to upgrade to Exchange Server 2007, though, since we are able to use charity licensing for Microsoft products. We just need a solution for scanning incoming emails (only). We already use Symantec’s Corporate Edition for the network, so we only need an email scanner for incoming messages. Unfortuantely, everything I have found so far requires that we pay per mailbox. This is more expensive than all the hardware (new server) and software (Exchange Server 2007 and Windows Server 2003) that we’ve bought for this project combined — and was somewhat unforeseen. Also, it costs per mailbox per year for the ongoing subscription. Is there a simple solution for scanning incoming emails regardless of the number of mailboxes we have? Is this an unrealistic expectation? Have we bitten off more than we can chew?
